The U.S. Small Business Administration loan programs are typically used by small businesses when conventional bank financing is unavailable.
The SBA offers several loan programs for borrowers who are seeking financing for new and existing businesses. Their two primary programs, the 7(a) and the 504, offer many advantages over traditional commercial financing such as lower amount of equity injection and longer terms and amortization periods.
The purpose of SBA loan programs is to give small businesses access to capital that otherwise would not be available from a bank. The SBA guarantees a portion of the loan which mitigates risk for the lender funding the loan.
